     Arthur Jeffrey Dempster was a Canadian physicist who was born on August 14th,1886 in Toronto, Canada and died on March 11th, 1950 in Stuart, Florida. He grew up in Toronto with his parents Emily and James Dempster where he attended the University of Toronto before he moved to Germany in 1911 to continue his studies. While in Germany the first world war had started and he decided to serve in the military for some time. After this he became an american citizen in 1914 and continued to pursue his studies in the field of physics at the University of Chicago. This led to him becoming a full time professor at the University of Chicago in 1927 and is where he made significant contributions to the field of physics.  Arthur was especially known for the contributions and advances he made in the field of physics that involved mass spectrometry.
